This article is in relation to a planning application submitted by Mark Lovatt Farms Ltd of Sutton Lodge Farm Leicestershire to build an industrial scale Waste Processing Plant to generate electricity, via the process called Anaerobic digestion (AD), for the national grid.
The Problem.
When AD plants are built on an industrial scale on rural green field sites, requiring thousands of lorry journeys to feed an unstoppable appetite, transporting waste from fifty miles away and more, reducing the cost of production of waste in supermarkets, ignoring EC and UK government waste management legislation and reducing people’s quality of life, they become the opposite of the original good idea. This appears to be the case of the waste processing plant planned by Mark Lovatt Farms Ltd at Sutton Lodge Farm, Leicestershire.
Where is Sutton Lodge Farm?
Sutton Lodge Farm is located in Broughton Astley in South West Leicestershire, see map here. The green arrow in the map indicates the proposed location for the Waste Plant.
What is Anaerobic Digestion?
Anaerobic Digestion is discussed here.
Why Anaerobic Digestion?
AD can be a useful process when it serves the waste recycling needs of a farm or small group of farms. It can also prove useful for local municipal waste where plants tend to be sited near established waste management facilities.
